and Kelah (Malaysian Masheer).

the Malaysian Tropical jungle or the blue ocean.
Fishing in Malaysia (Fresh and Blue Water)
At Gecko Adventure we provide our fishing guide services for
the following:-
The Giant Snakehead/ Channa micropeltes (Toman)
This species is prolific in the man made dams, lakes and
rivers in Malaysia. This is one of the most famous fresh water
sports fishing species. With its tenacious looks and aggressive
nature the Toman is deemed to be one of the most if not
“the most vicious and aggressiveâ€
fresh water fish in existence. Pound for pound this is the
hardest fighting fresh water fish in Malaysia, with its ability
to destroy reels and crush lures and break fishing rods, all in a
blink of an eye. Fishing Toman is what we call
“close quarter†fishing as they
are sneaky creatures which would usually hold near sunken logs
and tree stumps, as such we do recommend the usage of nothing
below 30lb test gear. We can fish Toman all year round in
Malaysia however the best time to fish it would be from Mid
December till end August.
Jungle Perch (Sebarau)
This species can be found in streams, dams and lakes. Their
numbers unfortunately have dwindled and are somewhat a rarity
these days. They are also another fish that is famous for its
aggressive nature hunt in schools; they readily take fast moving
lures. The Sebarau is a great sportfish; and anything below 2kg
is great fun and will give you a good fight on light tackle. The
Sebarau which weighs from 2 kilogram and above are highly sought
after by anglers for their legendary speed, power and fighting
prowess. They are known for their ability to crush hooks and
crushing lures. The Sebarau are exceptionally active at dawn and
dusk, they can be found near submerged logs or overhanging trees
and weedy banks - flooded banks etc are also favorites. We can
fish Sebarau all year round, best time to fish Sebarau is during
the Monsoon and wet season from Mid November till end March.
Peacock Bass
This is an introduced species and can be found in the central
region of Malaysia, mainly in mining ponds and lakes. They
readily take lures and flies. The Peacock Bass that are 12 inches
and above gives a great fight. We can fish this species all year
round.
SailFish (Istiophorus platypterus)
Malaysia has one of the top Sailfish (the smallest and fastest member of the Bill fish family) fishing grounds in the
world and is also known as the best sailfish fishing grounds in
Asia. With high numbers during sailfish fishing season you would
be able to hook up anything from 5 to 20 over sailfish a day
around 30kg to 40kg size each. We can fish for the Sailfish from
April till October, season is at its best from August till
October, and we do not have any charters from November till March
due to the Monsoon.
Fishing with Gecko Adventure (Fresh and Blue water)
At Gecko Adventure no inland body of water is deemed
inaccessible or blue water too far; if there are fish we will
find it and fish it.
If you are serious angler or just looking for an excuse to get
back to nature or some fun in the sun, come and join us on our
fishing trips, we have a wide variety of trips planned through
out the year targeting different species of fish all year
round.
All our guides are well versed in the area which the fishing
safari runs, and also most forms of fishing. We believe in
providing you with the proper information and guidance that will
give you the best chance to land that trophy fish.
At Gecko Adventure we are pro-conservation and as such all
fishing trips organized by us are pure catch and release trips or
observe strict bag limits.
All our fishing trips come fully equipped, from the 4x4, all
the way to the fishing boats and fishing kayaks; we have the
experience, local knowledge and equipment you will ever need for
your Malaysian Fishing Adventure.
Eco Fishing
At Gecko Adventure we also the first fishing guide company in
Malaysia to provide and organize eco-fishing
trips (Guided Kayak fishing trips).
These guided kayak fishing trips (something fairly new in
Malaysia) offers you a chance to immerse in what we are calling eco-fishing. With our logistic capabilities and experienced guides you would have the
opportunity to experience the closest form of back to nature
fishing you will ever find. The experience of having the vicious
Toman swimming around and under the kayak, a large sailfish
hitting your bait less than 2 feet from your kayak, feeding
egrets and swimming snakes are just some of the wildlife you
would be able to experience with this form of fishing.
On all our trips, lures and artificial baits are preferred but
we do prepare and provide all bait, upon your request at no extra
charge. We will provide you with a list of lures that you should
bring accordingly on all our trips, if you are unable to get the
recommended lures all our guides come fully prepared with a great
selection of lures which you can use for your trip (Terms &
Conditions apply), and should you require additional lures; we
will be more then happy to pick some up at the local tackle shop
for you.
If you don't have your own fishing tackle, don't worry
about it, just let us know, for a small fee we will be more then
happy to prepare a set for you.
